Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation

presents Artist Lori Sandström

at the O’side Bakery

Opening Reception

Thursday, November 3rd

from 5:30 – 7:30 PM

Dots! After admiring Mexican and African bead art for many years, I started playing with dots in my paintings. A trip to Alice Springs, Australia, had me reeling — I was so awed by Aboriginal paintings! I have happily let the amazing artwork of all these cultures influence my own.”

Lori Sandström received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hawaii, majoring in graphic design and minoring in painting and photography. Soon after graduating, she moved to San Diego and began her career as a graphic designer, illustrator, and photographer. Her graphic design has won both local and national awards in advertising and publishing. Employment at the San Diego Zoo and worldwide travel has played a big part in Lori’s art. Her passion for intense cultural immersion and exploration of the human experience clearly shapes her style of painting and point of view. Years of traveling, working, and volunteering on four continents have instilled in her a deep admiration for the crafts of artisans around the world. Lori uses this appreciation, along with her photographs and sketches, as a source of inspiration for her paintings today.

Lori’s artwork is on display and for sale at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and at various local art shows. She paints in her Oceanside home studio, where she also enjoys working on graphic design projects, commissioned paintings, and teaching art.

At the reception enjoy the sounds of Shook & Windrum.

Lou Shook performs originals and fresh arrangements of covers from the 1970’s to now.

Available as a solo, duo, or 4-piece band.
Performing at clubs, restaurants, parties, weddings and corporate events throughout Southern California.

Lou founded The Flounders Band in Encinitas around Y2K. Originally we called ourselves BeanTik & The Jumpin’ Flounders. Soon shortened to Flounders. Not afraid to get wet, we styled ourselves as the perfect pool party band. Influences include Van Morrison, Honk, Taj Mahal, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, James Taylor, Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel. We’re not a classic “Surf Music Band” but our style reflects a lifestyle of surfing and a Southern California vibe. Hope to see you soon.

Mark Windrum is an American rock, jazz, and pop bass player and just an ok vocalist. Born and raised in Carlsbad, CA, he started playing electric and upright bass at 15 years old. Mark performs with many San Diego County bands.
