is a San Diego based jazz group that formed in early 2021 and has been making a strong presence in the jazz scene having performed in North County (Oceanside) at venues such as Frankie’s and also at the Aztec Brewery in Vista. The group’s core members met while attending undergraduate school at San Diego State University where they were all performing together in various jazz ensembles and combos. The group at its core is a rhythm section trio that features the instrumentation of Guitar, Bass and Drums but is always open to inviting guest musicians to perform with them.
Guitarist Rudy Marquez has achieved much in his short tenure as a Jazz Guitarist in San Diego. He has studied with many local jazz legends such as Richard Thompon, Bob Boss, Anthony Smith, and has held the jazz guitar chair at San Diego State being under the tutelage of the legendary William Yeager and Karl Soukup. Rudy currently holds a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from San Diego State University and is also finishing his last semester as a graduate student. Rudy performs regularly as a solo act for a venue in La Mesa, San Diego called Wine Works where he has played for 3 years now. He also has toured as a duet with Jazz Guitarist Alex Ciavarelli as the “Django Shredders” having toured and played in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Arizona, and also Iowa having showcased the music of the late Django Reinhardt.
Bassist Kyle Bayquen has been exploring the artistic capacities of the bass guitar since 2007. He has received mentoring from local jazz luminaries such as; Justin Grinell, Mackenzie Leighton and Bob Magnusson. He has been very fortunate to have recorded and perform with illustrious composer, improviser, and educator, Bob Weller. He has also held the bass chair for the Weller-Soto Quartet that is based out of Oceanside San Diego.
Drummer Aram Thaggard is an active drummer of 17 years base in Southern California who has studied with Homero Chavez, Anthony Smith, David Whitman, Mark Ferber, and Mike Holguin. Aram received his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University in 2018 and has performances spanning nationwide ranging from Jazz Clubs in Brooklyn to the Tournament of the Roses Parade in Los Angeles California. He has also performed with notable acts such as the San Diego State University Jazz Ensemble, San Diego Gay Men’s Choir, and the Disneyland Resort All American College Band.
